A Soldier’s Story,
the iconic new film whose recent media unveiling has continued to receive hot
reviews across print and online media platforms, has now berthed in Cinemas for
the viewing delight of the larger public.
The debut screening of the epic film today at The
Genesis Cinemas, Lekki attracted a large turnout of excited film buffs who
trooped out to savour the acting dexterity of the colourful cast. As early as 10
am, the seats in the hall had all been taken for a show that was billed for an
hour later.
The audience capped the day with a standing ovation
for the first-of-its-kind Nigerian movie that celebrates
and appreciates the sacrifices and contributions of the heroic Nigerian
soldiers and their often traumatized families to the unity and sustenance of
the peace, progress and wellbeing of the country and the citizenry
In the movie, AMVCA award winning actress
and model, Linda Ihuoma Ejiofor, known for her role as Bimpe Adekoya in M-Net’s
TV series Tinsel, plays the lead character as Regina. Renowned voice-over
broadcaster; Tope Tedela who came into limelight after playing the lead role in
the 2003 film, A Mile from Home, for which he was nominated for Most Promising
Actor Category at the 10th Africa Movie Academy Awards, plays the lead
character as Major Egan.
Multi
award winning actor,Daniel K. Daniel plays the character “BossMan”, a ruthless
and brutal dog of war whose only interest is in the spoils of war just as Adesua
Etomi, who debuts her acting career in 2004 after studying Physical theatre,
Musical theatre and Performing Arts at the City College, Coventry, United
Kingdom, plays the character “Lebari”, Major Egan’s beautiful wife who has to
deal with the realities of a soldier’s spouse.
Interestingly,
popular radio presenter, Classic FM’s On Air Personality, Chico Aligwekwe, aka
Big Chico, plays the character Lt. Col. Bello, a decorated officer whose
feelings for Lebari, his god daughter, drives him to a decision that sets the
premise of the story, while Zainab Balogun, a Television personality with EbonyLife
TV plays the character “Angela”, Regina’s close friend and a go getter with an
eye for Regina’s crush, Egan.
Other
class acts that distinguish themselves in the movie are Chidozie Nzeribe, aka ‘Sambasa’
who plays the character Ghetto, a trigger happy and trusted hand of Bossman as
well as Olumide Oworu, a multi-talented entertainer who plays the character
Edwin, Regina’s naive younger brother.
Directed by Frankie Ogar who holds
a masters in Media Production from Birmingham University and has produced and
directed numerous Television series in addition to working for many years for
BBC and produced by Martin Gbados, this new movie, according to industry
whispers, is set to make
a showing at this year’s edition of the African Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards
(AMVCA).
Industry
watchers say the film is definitely one creative exploit worth following as it
dazzles viewers and critiques alike in the coming days.
