| RICHARD "RICHIE" FRANCIS |
Popularly known as Richie is Nigerian talented singer,
prolific songwriter and musician born Richard
Francis. A former member of the group D’accord winners of Star Quest 2006
Music concert organized by Nigerian Breweries Plc.
Richie was born in Afang Obong Akwa
Ibom State Southern region of Nigeria, and later moved to Kaduna State with
his parents where he attended school. Richie’s intense passion for music
started at the early age of nine, when he used to sing in church choir. And,
his craving for music, made him relocated to Lagos where he started his music
career. Interestingly, he honed his musical skills and talents by singing in
night clubs and bars in Lagos.
Information has it that Richie came
to limelight through a National Music Television Reality Contest tagged “Star Quest Music Talent Hunt” 2006
Edition in Lagos Nigeria, organized and sponsored by Nigerian Breweries Plc. We
recalled that more than fifty thousand contestants auditioned for the contest
from six geo political zones in Nigeria and Richie was among the thirty six
successful contestants that made it to the competition. D' accord emerged
winners of the Star Quest Music Contest and was awarded a record deal of which
Richie played a very key role as a songwriter and lead singer of his band which
enhanced and propelled them to win the competition.
After winning, D'accord was later
signed on to Question Mark Entertainment Lagos Nigeria. D'accord released its
debut album “Much Too Much” under the stable of Question Mark Entertainment
on the 10th of August 2007, a ten track album of which Richie wrote eight songs
on the album. In 2006 Richie was invited as a guest artist to the MOBO Awards
in the U.K. In Nigeria Richie has toured more than twenty states doing what he
knows how to do best. We also gathered that for the Star Mega Jamz concerts, he
has performed as an opening act for such artistes; Akon, Kanye West, LL Cool J,
D Banj and Don Jazzy in Lagos and Abuja.
To Richie’s credit, creativity and
unending passion for good music, many of the industry watchers were not surprised
that he was nominated as one of the awards’ recipients and performers at the 5th
edition of OYA Awards billed to take
place in Indianapolis, USA come July 2017.
Richie’s latest two hot singles,
produced by Young D and Puffy T entitled “U
Gada Sumthin” and “Jojo Crazy”
are the songs to beat and copy in this part of the world.
