Saheed, Executive Director of HR People Magazine, mourns the loss of
his grand aunt, Chief (Mrs.) Anike Agbaje-Williams, a pioneering media
personality who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2025,
at the age of 88.
Born on October 23, 1936,
Chief (Mrs.) Anike Agbaje-Williams was a trailblazer in the broadcasting
industry. She made history on October 31, 1959, by becoming the first
female broadcaster on Africa's first television station, Western Nigeria
Television (WNTV). Her illustrious career spanned over three decades,
during which she served as a respected broadcaster, producer, and
director, leaving an indelible mark on the media landscape.
Beyond
her professional achievements, Chief (Mrs.) Agbaje-Williams was
cherished for her warmth and generosity, positively impacting the lives
of many, including her grandnephew, Dapo Saheed. Reflecting on her
legacy, Mr. Saheed remarked, "She will remain in my heart forever." She
is survived by her children, who are excelling in their respective
fields across the globe.
